How to use this feature

From now on,Blogger users need not add individual descriptions to their post. There is a separate tag for this descriptions. This can be enabled by in Settings – Search Preferences – Descriptions. Click on edit and Enter your description for your blog. Descriptions for Individual posts can be added from sidebar of editor window. There is an option called Search Description. For enabling this, you should enable Descriptions in Search preferences.

From now on, we can add individual meta description from Edit post window.
Take backup of your Template before doing this editing.

What about your old posts

Well, two options are there. First is for those who didn’t edit your template for meta descriptions. You can manually edit each and every post in Post editor and add Search Descriptions. For a large blog, this is a tedious work. Before doing this, just check you have below code in your template. For custom templates, it will not be there. Go to Dashboard – Blog – Template – Edit HTML and click on proceed. Search for

<meta expr:content='data:blog.metaDescription' name='description'/>

If it is there, then fine. Otherwise add this code just below </title> . Find </title> by search and add it.

For those who added code for meta descriptions

The second option is for those who edited your template for meta descriptions. You have to edit your template. This is for those who added below code in their Template.

<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == &quot;index&quot;'>
<meta expr:content='data:blog.pageTitle + data:blog.title' name='description'/>
</b:if>

The code won’t be exactly like this, there will be some difference. If you have this code or similar code in your template, then this method is for you. If you are going to add individual search descriptions to every post, then delete above code and find </title> by search and add below code just below </title>

<meta expr:content='data:blog.metaDescription' name='description'/>

If you are not adding individual descriptions for each and every post(well, this is not possible for blogs having large number of posts), then add this code instead of above one.

<meta expr:content='data:blog.metaDescription+data:blog.pageTitle + data:blog.title' name='description'/>

For those who added individual meta descriptions by editing Template

Another category of bloggers are out there, those who added individual descriptions to their posts by editing template. Better option is keep old descriptions in their Template and find

<meta expr:content='data:blog.pageTitle + data:blog.title' name='description'/>

The code may not be exactly like this. Replace the above code with below code.

<meta expr:content='data:blog.metaDescription' name='description'/>

Now your posts are equipped with individual meta descriptions. You can check your blog with Google’s rich snippet testing tool. If you are facing any problem, let me know.
